The UW Libraries’ PCE Student Advisory Board Mission has three main purposes:
To advise the UW Libraries Instructional Design Unit on issues affecting fee-based students and pertaining to student research or information needs.
To expand awareness of fee-based student issues, and to increase the impact and representation of Fee-Based Students on the University of Washington Libraries’ resources, policies, and decision-making.
To foster an environment in which all professional and fee-based students can achieve their full potential as information seekers and researchers.
There is no required experience necessary to be part of the Student Advisory Board except current enrollment in a Fee-Based Degree Program at the University of Washington. For a list of programs, see https://www.pce.uw.edu/degrees.

The University of Washington Libraries’ PCE Student Advisory Board is an exciting opportunity for students in fee-based degree programs at the University of Washington to cultivate relationships with the Libraries, provide feedback on behalf of their peers and programs, and discuss ongoing issues pertaining to their programs and communities on campus.

As a student on the Board, you will gain leadership experience improving the quality of libraries services and resources for Professional & Continuing Education students, and have an opportunity to network and connect with students from a range of programs and disciplines. This is a unique opportunity to not only build your resume, but also to help improve services and to build marketable skills related to research, outreach, and communication.

Mission & Purpose

The UW Libraries’ PCE Student Advisory Board operates under the Mission of the UW Libraries, which "advances intellectual discovery and enriches the quality of life by connecting people with knowledge."

  • To advise the UW Libraries' Instructional Design & Outreach Services Unit on issues affecting fee-based students and pertaining to PCE student research or information needs.
  • To expand awareness within the Libraries of fee-based student issues, and to increase the impact and representation of PCE students on the Libraries’ resources, policies, and decision-making.
  • To foster an environment in which all professional and fee-based students can achieve their full potential as information seekers and researchers.

Specific Responsibilities & Duties

UW Libraries PCE Student Advisory Board members are asked to set aside time each quarter for one academic year to participate in activities, meetings, assessments, and conversations that facilitate an active relationship between the Libraries and members' home programs. Required activities will be planned in advance, while optional activities may arise Ad Hoc.

Regular activities include:

  • Attending at least two synchronous meeting per quarter (required); as available attend additional trainings, events and assessments.
  • Communicate to the Libraries Instructional Design Unit information about student and peer information needs/interests and research projects (required).
  • Serve as a liaison between cohort/program and the UW Libraries, including serving as a touchpoint to your peers about libraries events and resources.
Upon full completion of meeting attendance, required responsibilities and duties, UW Libraries PCE Student Advisory Board members will receive up to $200 via gift card payments at the end of the quarter. The estimated student commitment is 5-10 hours per quarter, with membership renewing quarterly for up to one year (Fall-Spring unless otherwise noted).

Required & Desired Qualifications

You must be enrolled in an eligible fee-based degree program at the University of Washington to be eligible for board membership.

The purpose of the Student Advisory Board is to create avenues of dialogue between the UW Libraries and Fee-Based Programs at UW. With this in mind, the Libraries seeks representation from a broad representation of programs and disciplines, as well as from a diverse set of student experiences. As the goal of this Board is to bridge gaps between the UW Libraries and UW campus, we encourage membership and participation from less-represented students in higher education, including First Generation students, LGBTQ students, students with disabilities, international students and non-traditional students.

The membership of the UW Libraries’ PCE Student Advisory Board seeks constituents with diverse experiences from the following fee-based groups:

  • Full-Time Residential Programs
  • Executive Degree Programs
  • Part-Time Degree Programs
  • Online Degree Programs
