Reasons for Cancellation

Common reasons that an Interlibrary Loan, Article Scanning, or Summit request might be canceled. Includes suggestions for next steps.

Summit Borrowing

  • Not on shelf - the lending library staff could not find the item on their shelves.
  • Non-circulating - this item is non-circulating and cannot be checked out. These items still appear as "available" because they are on the shelf at the other library.
  • In use - this item may have been available at the time that you placed your Summit request, but was checked out by a user at that library before the item could be shipped to the University of Washington.

 

Interlibrary Loan - book/item or article scan

  • Cancelled by Customer - This request was cancelled because you contacted us and asked us to cancel this request or because we contacted you with a question and did not receive a reply. You can resubmit this request by viewing the Transaction in your ILL account.
  • Deadline - This request was cancelled because we were unable to meet the deadline you provided. You can extend your deadline when you resubmit this request by viewing the Transaction in your ILL account
  • Duplicate - This request was cancelled because it was a duplicate of a request you have currently placed with ILL. If you have a question, or believe that this request was not a duplicate, please reply to the email cancellation notice.
  • In use - This request was cancelled because it is currently in use by other library patrons, and may have additional holds on it.  Owning libraries will not place holds for Interlibrary Loan clients.  You can wait 1-2 months and then resubmit this request by viewing the transaction in your ILL account.  If it is a popular item and owned by your local public library, you may wish to contact them and place your name on the waiting list. You can also suggest that the University of Washington purchase this title for our own collection by using our Purchase Request form. You may also wish to consult with a Librarian to locate alternate resources.
  • Unable to borrow - This request was cancelled because no owning libraries were able to provide this material.
  • On Order - This request was cancelled because it is has been/will be published recently; it is currently on order or in use at other libraries. You may wish to resubmit your request in 3-6 months or ask the  Libraries to purchase this item using the Purchase Request form. For popular items you may wish to try your local public library. You may also consult with a Librarian to locate alternate resources.
  • Noncirculating - This request was cancelled because the owning library is not able to loan it. This could be due to the policies of the owning library, the condition of the item or the type of material being requested. If a small portion of the item is needed, you may resubmit your ILL request with specific page numbers in the notes field. Often the only way to access a noncirculating item is to visit the owning library and view it there. You may also wish to consult with a Librarian to locate alternate resources.
  • Not licensed to fill - This request was cancelled because it has only been published electronically, and there are license restrictions which prohibit copying and electronic access. There may be an alternate edition (an earlier print edition for example) that could be borrowed. Consider working with a Librarian before resubmitting your ILL request. You can also suggest that the Libraries purchase this electronic title for our own collections by using our Purchase Request form.   • Not found as cited - This request was cancelled we cannot obtain this item with the provided citation. Check your original source to see if all information is entered correctly. Consider working with a Librarian to amend the citation before resubmitting your ILL request.


Article Scanning Service

  • Instructors only - This request was cancelled because the Course Instruction Scanning service is limited to course instructors only.
  • Not found as cited - This request was cancelled we cannot obtain this item with the provided citation. Check your original source to see if all information is entered correctly. Consider working with a Librarian to amend the citation before resubmitting your ILL request.
