Welcome Message from Interim Director

August 14, 2023

Colleagues of UW East Asian Studies

I am reaching out to introduce myself, following the UW Libraries’ most recent announcement, to let you know that I am pleased to have accepted the position of interim director of the Tateuchi East Asia Library. I am committed to working collaboratively with UW Libraries’ leadership and with you, our UW community, to continue to provide excellent service and support for all of our Tateuchi East Asia Library users.

Having worked at Tateuchi East Asia Library for 21 years, I am very familiar with the library, its collections and the special relationship and role that our librarians and staff play in helping to guide and inspire teaching, learning and research for our UW users, community members and an international community of researchers.

As noted in the announcement, we are pleased to welcome Lucy Li as the temporary China Studies Librarian, and we are actively working to fill the remaining outstanding positions that will enable us to resume regular hours in the fall. We are still putting the “final touches” on the remodel of our beautiful new space, and I look forward to welcoming our community to the Library for some re-opening celebrations in the coming year.

Thank you for your patience as I step into this new role, and please feel free to reach out with questions as needed.

Sincerely,

Hyokyoung Yi

Interim Director, Tateuchi East Asia Library / Korea Studies Librarian
